Synthesis

Synthesis is a tabletop role-playing game (akin to Dungeons and Dragons) which revolves around an elemental magic system guided by emotion. Rather than having classes such as "Barbarian" or "Wizard", all characters have what are called "Marks" which both define the form their magic takes (fire, ice, light, etc) and encompasses a core aspect of their personality. Through this, characters gain power and complexity through their growth as a person - acquiring new Marks when they discover a new aspect of their identity. 

 My goal was to combine my love of introspective characters placed very far outside their comfort zone, with the bombastic, emotionally charged transformation sequences that were a staple of late 90s Shonen anime. The result is a game that makes little distinction between godlike arcane power, and deep, subtle character development.
